Writing a Position Description

A well written Position Description:

  • Creates a shared understanding of position responsibilities and performance expectations
  • Assists in aligning Xavier's positions with those in the market
  • Supports workforce planning

Use the following template to create a position description. Keep in mind that the purpose of the position description is to collect information about the nature of the position and is not designed to detail an individual?s performance.

Be as specific as possible. Keep in mind that the intention is to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. The position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties performed.
