BUILDING SERVICES LEAD
Xavier University is seeking applications for the position of Building Services Lead. This new position reports to the Associate Director of Campus Services. The primary purpose of this position is to function as first line supervisor for building services specialists and building services technicians with responsibility for the overall organization and supervision of residence hall housekeeping. May be required to work overtime, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assist in the development, training, implementation and management of custodial policies and procedures; comply with all safety procedures encountered in the maintenance and operation of the University buildings and equipment; provide information and feedback to the Associate Director of Campus Services and assist in annual evaluations of staff; encourage the development of custodial cleaning to the highest levels of service; recommends replacement or additional equipment needs for all areas of responsibility; observe and report any and all defects, deteriorations, and wear and tear on facilities; provide training to employees on proper and safe use of all equipment and cleaning chemicals; promptly report any on the job accidents; perform inventory control of housekeeping supplies and cleaning materials; set up and participate in training sessions as requested; supervise recycling and waste disposal from the residence halls; supervise all housekeeping functions as related to University owned houses on campus; respond to all snow and ice events; complete time reports for reporting staff; complete custodial work in buildings as needed; sweep, mop, strip, spray-buff and wax floors; vacuum and scrub carpets; clean and disinfect all surface and fixtures and maintain consumable stock in residence hall restrooms; dust surfaces and clean and polish furniture; wash window sills and clean glass and trim in corridor and entrance doors; remove trash and recycling to central pick up area and replace can liners; perform deliveries and pick up of recycling and install mall banners, driving trucks as needed; maintain custodial equipment and report any needed service; monitor and supervise the preparation and cleaning of resident spaces for functions; work closely with the Office of Residence Life regarding specific requests and summer conferencing season; and make beds and keep track of linen orders for summer conferencing season. Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications: high school diploma or equivalent; minimum of five years experience relating to the custodial function within an educational or similar institution; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies; accomplished written and verbal communication skills; capability to plan, coordinate, analyze, execute and document specific administrative and supervisory functions with a sense of the long term goals of the department; ability to follow all safety, department, system and state policies, procedures and regulations; ability to work cooperatively with other departments in team concepts; ability to follow instructions and exercise basic human relations skills; valid driver’s license and deemed insurable under Xavier’s policies; and ability to lift heavy loads (approximately 100 pounds), to climb stairs, ladders, work high above the ground, and work in strained, cramped positions and confined spaces. Minimum of three years supervisory experience preferred.
