Street Name Change

On Friday, December 2 the portion of Ledgewood Drive from Dana Avenue north to Herald will be renamed Francis Xavier Way. Because of this name change, the street addresses for Smith Hall, Conaton Learning Commons and Hailstones Hall will be changed as well.

The new addresses are:

Conaton Learning Commons                                  1001 Francis Xavier Way

Smith Hall                                                            1002 Francis Xavier Way

Hailstones Hall                                                      1005 Francis Xavier Way

The ‘1003’ number is being reserved for the new classroom building. Bellarmine Chapel’s address will remain as 3801 Ledgewood Drive. All other buildings on Ledgewood will also retain their current Ledgewood addresses.

Please use these new addresses for deliveries, etc. There may be a transition period as outside vendors are made aware of the name change. A new street sign has been installed to help ease the transition.

The Office of University Communications is working to update any on line references of the affected addresses on Xavier websites. The University Communications web team is also working to update the addresses in Google maps and other on line map and mobile services.

Additionally, the City of Cincinnati has been notified of the name change.

Academic Mall Piping Project Begins

March 23, 2011

On Monday, March 28 work will begin on the Academic Mall piping project. Fences will be erected from McDonald across the Mall (from east to west) to Hinkle. The work in this phase of the project will be done in sections to allow pedestrian traffic to be maintained.

Academic Mall New Pipe Project

March 16, 2011

In the next few weeks work will begin on the Academic Mall to replace underground heating and cooling piping. The project will begin and continue while classes are in session and is scheduled to be completed by August 1.

Please note: The Academic Mall will remain open during the project.

The existing heating and cooling distribution system is leaking. Replacing the piping with insulated steel piping will not only reduce operational costs by repairing the leaks, but will connect Logan, Albers and Gallagher, etc. to the new, more energy efficient Central Utility Plant. It will also allow Xavier to retire older HVAC equipment in Logan.

To complete this project, certain pathways along the Academic Mall will be closed and foot traffic will be diverted.

The piping runs under the Academic Mall closest to the east side of the mall. Therefore the walkways along the east side of the mall (those closest to Alter and McDonald) will be closed for the duration of the project. There will still be access to Alter and McDonald from the mall; however, there may be times when the work will require that those entry ways be shut down for a brief period. Handicapped access will be maintained.

The walkways along the west side of the mall (those closest to Hinkle and Schmidt) will be open for the duration of the project.

Work will also take place at times across the mall. For example, new piping will be installed from McDonald across the mall to Hinkle and Schmidt. Pedestrian traffic will be diverted during these times.

Hot water heat will not be available during the duration of the project, so it may feel a bit humid inside some buildings along the Academic Mall. Air conditioning will be available as usual with some minor disruptions.

Additional announcements will be published with more specific dates as the project progresses.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
