Phi Alpha Theta
Xavier has an active local chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honorary society. It sponsors lectures and social gatherings for students and faculty and encourages students to participate in competitions. In recent years Xavier students have been awarded several prizes for excellence in scholarship and individual presentations by the national organization.
The department of history maintains ties with the American Historical Association, the Organization of American Historians, and the Cincinnati Historical Society.
