Counseling Services Confidentiality

What exactly does "confidential" mean?

Any information discussed in the course of counseling is protected by Ohio law as privileged communication. This means that information you reveal will not be released or discussed with anyone without your full knowledge and informed consent.

There are a few relatively rare exceptions to this law, including situations of imminent physical harm to you or to others; known or suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly or handicapped person; or a court order.

All staff at the Health and Wellness Center are prohibited from consulting with or sharing protected information about any student with any other University staff without your informed permission. Within the Center, therapists may, when necessary, confer with other counseling or medical staff to facilitate and coordinate our services to you
