The construction of the new buildings increased Xavier's square footage (how much land the campus covers) but thanks to the sustainable systems in place, it did not increase the energy usage. In fact, energy usage per square foot decreased after the construction.
The high efficiency equipment now being utilized has decreased our overall energy consumption by 17.5%. One energy-saving feature is improved glazing that provides a tighter seal around windows in order to prevent heat/air conditioning from escaping the building and driving energy usage up.
