As a student in the Master
of Arts program in English, you will develop critical,
expository, and research skills, a critical and
historical understanding of literature and language,
and a knowledge of current theories of interpretation.
You will find the program to be useful in your
career as a teacher, editor, or other profession
requiring verbal skills, critical thinking, or
knowledge of literacy traditions. It will deeply
enrich your intellect and imagination, regardless
of your career or point in life.
The principal English faculty
at Xavier consists of fourteen professors of various
backgrounds and critical perspectives who are
actively involved in research in fields ranging
from medieval to contemporary literature and composition.
Recent faculty publications include books and
articles on Shakespeare, Robert Browning, Samuel
Beckett, postmodern travel literature, and Jewish
American poetry.
