As a student in the Masterof Arts program in English, you will develop critical,expository, and research skills, a critical andhistorical understanding of literature and language,and a knowledge of current theories of interpretation.You will find the program to be useful in yourcareer as a teacher, editor, or other professionrequiring verbal skills, critical thinking, orknowledge of literacy traditions. It will deeplyenrich your intellect and imagination, regardlessof your career or point in life.
The principal English facultyat Xavier consists of fourteen professors of variousbackgrounds and critical perspectives who areactively involved in research in fields rangingfrom medieval to contemporary literature and composition.Recent faculty publications include books andarticles on Shakespeare, Robert Browning, SamuelBeckett, postmodern travel literature, and JewishAmerican poetry.
