College of Arts and Sciences: Economics
Economics Overview
Economics studies:
- How societies decide to use resources and produce goods
- What determines the distributions of income and wealth
- How countries grow and develop
To accomplish this, economics courses focus on:
- Inflation, unemployment, and business cycles
- How markets – including labor, natural resource, and financial markets – work
- International economic relations
- Economic development
- The impacts of laws, regulations, and tax policy
- Interactions between politics and economics
- Strategic decision-making by companies
Economic analysis is used by policy-makers to determine appropriate government policies and companies to make investment decisions and develop strategies.
