What is changing?
A network design change is being implemented in order to improve the scalability and reliability of the Xavier network.
When will this change take place?
Information Resources will be coordinating this change over the course of the summer/fall. Timely communications will be provided when your office or building is scheduled to be switched over to the new network design. We plan to begin the project with Schott (floors 7-10) followed by the McDonald Library. Once we have completed those first two areas, we will assess the amount of time and resources that were required, and then finalize our schedule for the other buildings on campus.
How will I know when my area is scheduled to be switched over?
Once we have finalized the schedule, we will provide targeted email communications to those affected by the change. On the days immediately preceding and following a building switchover, we will be hanging signs on the doors of that building to remind people of the printer changes and where to look for more information.
What will be the impact to me and others in my department?
During the two- to three-hour scheduled evening cutover period, network-based activity will be affected. After the cutover, your computer will have a new IP address. Once the cutover is complete, most of you will not be impacted by this change, since Information Resources configured the Windows Network printers for you when you were migrated to the new Exchange email system. However, we are anticipating that we will find some faculty and staff members who were not switched at that time. Also, there are a number of printers that have been moved from one office location to another over the past couple years. These printers will need to be re-discovered and set up on the Windows printer network for continued access.
Who should I contact if I experience technical issues the day after the change?
There will be Discovery Services resources on-hand from 7:30 a.m. until noon on the morning after a building switchover, and on-call on an ongoing basis. The Help Desk will be on alert the morning after to field calls and to quickly contact the on-site resource if needed.
If you have questions or encounter issues when there are not on-site resources available, you can request assistance by calling the IRC Help Desk at 745-4357.
