The Jewish Tradition
"Thanks and praise for our Jewish brothers and sisters, for their enriching symbols of worship and their cherishing of tradition."
Judaism is the tradition grounded in the religious beliefs and practices and way of life of the Jewish people. It finds its anchor in the monotheism adopted by Biblical Hebrews. In this early period there also developed a belief in the ultimate coming of God's kingdom on earth, a time of peace and justice.
Jews see themselves as partners in an eternal covenant with God, the responsibilities of which are defined by Torah.
Judaism is both religion and civilization grounded in the ethical monotheism reflected the books of the Biblical prophets.
Observance is shaped by adherence to the divine commandments or expectations, which have both a ritual and ethical character. Judaism celebrates life and culture, enjoining its followers to the celebration of life's essential goodness and to the service of humankind in the name of God.
