As you can see here, the President has unveiled his education plan. The plan calls for $900 million in "turnaround grants" designed to support low-performing schools that undertake certain reform models which could include firing the principal, the faculty, becoming a charter school or even closing the school.

You can read the proposal yourself, but I will share some thoughts. I am concerned that the focus of all the money is on the low performing schools. While I agree they need the support, there is an inherent assumption that all schools that are performing at an acceptable level are adequately funded. There are a large number of people working extraordinarily hard at local schools who are succeeding in spite of their current funding rather than because of their funding levels. This plan has nothing for them. I do not support giving additional funding to districts who already have substantial funding, it is the underlying assumption that concerns me..

What do you think?.
