A Look into Solving Chronic Homelessness: Jimmy Heath House
Mary Burke Rivers has served as Executive Director of Over-the-Rhine (OTR) Community Housing for over 17 years. The organization develops housing and community in the OTR neighborhood. She serves on the board of the Coalition on Housing and Homelessness in Ohio, the Ohio Community Development Finance Fund, and the CDC Association of Greater Cincinnati and was appointed by former Ohio Governor, Ted Strickland, to serve on the Ohio Housing Trust Fund Advisory Committee.

- Dan Dressman has been the Executive Director of the Home Builders Association of Greater Cincinnati since April of 2009. He served for nearly a decade in a similar capacity with the Home Builders Association of Northern Kentucky. He began his housing association career with the Cincinnati Area Board of Realtors and has been involved in the housing industry for 29 years. He is a frequent regional spokesman on housing-related issues with the local media and author of numerous articles on land development, housing and community planning. - Rex Gordon is the Vice President of Corporate Land for the Drees Co. and is the 2011 President of the Home Builders Association of Greater Cincinnati (HBA). He has been active in the residential construction industry for 26 years. Prior to his 15-year tenure with The Drees Co., he was employed by Centex Homes, which was one of the nation's largest single-family builders. He has also served in public accounting with Touche Ross & Co. Gordon also serves as a Director of both the Ohio and National Association of Home Builders. Mark Fisher is the Senior Director of Facilities, Planning and Sustainability for the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden. He manages all the botanical, construction and maintenance projects within the Cincinnati Zoo. Mr. Fisher was the Senior Project Manager for Turner Construction, a privately held company, for approximately 11 years. He spent the first 12 years of his professional career pursuing his lifelong passion of building construction (churches, hospitals, log cabins, and currently, elephant exhibits).

A Historic Record Label, A Proud Neighborhood
- Brian Powers is a music librarian and local historian at the Public Library of Cincinnati. In 2008, he organized a symposium on King Records at the Main Library that included panel discussions and an exhibit. In 2009, his book, A King Records Scrapbook, was nominated for Best Research on a Record Label by the Association for Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC). Currently, Brian is an advisor on a King Records documentary for Public Television and a board member for King Studios.

- Adam Rockel has been at the Center for Great Neighborhoods for over three years, following an experience with the Peace Corps where he served in the Republic of Macedonia. He started at the Center as an intern while pursuing a Master'ss Degree at the University of Cincinnati. He helps manage the rehabilitation and new construction of homes that are an integral part of the Center's community development and revitalization efforts. Bringing Foreclosure Back on Line Using NSP Best Practices
- Sister Anne Rene McConn is volunteer President and CEO of the Westwood Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (West CURC), a non-profit organized in 1978 to promote community and economic development in Cincinnati's Westwood neighborhood. The plan is to develop the organization's program until it can afford paid staff. She is also part-time president of the Community Development Corporations Association of Greater Cincinnati, the trade association in this region for non-profit neighborhood developers.

- Brandy McQueary is responsible for implementing the City of Cincinnati's $20 million Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP). She joined the Department of Community Development in 2008 and works closely with local non-profit and for-profit developers to purchase and redevelop foreclosed or abandoned residential property in order to mitigate the harmful effects foreclosed and vacant properties have on local neighborhoods. In 2011, Cincinnati was one of several NSP Grantees from across the U.S.A. spotlighted as having an exceptional and effective NSP program. Prior to joining the City, Brandy spent five years working in Corporate Bankruptcy and Reorganization for a law firm.

Building & Rehabbing Green Homes Through Collaboration & Sustainable Design
- Michael Berry is Project Manager for the Cincinnati Northside Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation. Northside was the first Community Development Corporation in the region to produce LEED homes, receiving national grants and recognition. - Ozie Davis III spent the last two years as Congressional Community Liaison. He spent 5 years at the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). He's an active member of the Avondale Community Council, co-founder of the Avondale Youth Council and founder of Residents United for a Better Avondale (RUFABA). He also created the Walnut Hills Test Preparatory Program for Inner City Kids, founded and voluntarily directs the Queen City Youth Development Program, and is developing another youth support initiative for High School students. Edward P. Cunningham is the Property Maintenance Code Enforcement Division Manager with the City of Cincinnati's Department of Community Development. He has worked for the City in Housing Inspection for 24 years. Divine Inspirations: New Users for Old Churches
Sean Rhiney has written about urban living, the arts, law, and rock and roll for national and regional publications for nearly 10 years. A strong advocate for Cincinnati's world class arts scene, he's the former chair of Mayor Mallory's Young Professionals Kitchen Cabinet (YPKC) Arts and Culture Committee and served as vice-chair of the City's Arts Allocation Committee. A former trial lawyer, he now spends his days developing new lawyers at the University of Cincinnati, College of Law. - Brent Wake has been at the City of Fort Wayne Office of the Mayor since January 2011 following seven years with the Office of U.S. Senator Evan Bayh where he served as the Northeast Regional Director and statewide African American Outreach Liaison. Looking to remain in the city that became his home, Brent accepted a position in the Mayor’s office, providing him with a new avenue to serving his community. Mr. Wake serves as the Mayor’s liaison to neighborhoods in the western half of the City, assisting members of neighborhood, business and community service associations as they work with City government. Brent also assists the City in coordinating and prioritizing its legislative agenda and is tasked with coordinating a variety of City and community projects.

Fostering Effective Neighborhood Communication
Raymond Robinson has a long history of local community building, and is an expert in neighborhood communication. In 1997, he helped facilitate the creation of Neighborhood Link, which is now the oldest and the largest (with over 40,000 communities) online network of neighborhoods in the United States. He has an extraordinary knack for translating complex technical concepts into ideas understood by normal people. His work for Apple, AT&T and Colorado Memory Systems (now a division of HP) has given him a broad exposure to the technology industry and he understands how to use technology as a tool to bring neighbors together.

- Rachel Hastings joined the Center for Great Neighborhoods of Covington in 1996 as a student intern and currently serves as the Director of Neighborhood and Housing Initiatives. She is passionate about working directly with residents on strategic and neighborhood planning, nurturing the Center's partnerships with for-profit, non-profit and public entities, managing housing project developments, and increasing civic engagement in community building efforts. - Sharmili Reddy is Senior Planner with the Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission (NKAPC) where she assists in the preparation and update of comprehensive plans, manages county-wide projects and facilitates small area studies. She has worked as a planner in the public sector for over nine years and has worked extensively with neighborhood groups, the public, planning commissions and elected officials. Gloria Ann Zebbs Anderson began her career in financial institutions, working in banks, savings and loans, and the stock market. She changed careers in the early 1980's, when she worked for the State of Ohio Office of Collective Bargaining. Growing Green in Decatur
- Jennifer Briggs, who has a 20-year career in Public Health, is the Director of Physician Engagement and Field Relations for the Illinois Division of the American Cancer Society (ACS). She has been with ACS for eight years, serving in a variety of roles including patient services, community and corporate education, advocacy and media relations. In her current role, Jennifer coordinates the Cancer Early Detection Physician Education Program, manages the "Medical Ambassador" volunteer program, provides field staff support and training, as well as manages several special education projects for the IL Division.

- Sue Hemp has worked in the social service field as a job developer and has been employed as a reference librarian at the Decatur (IL) Public Library and University of Illinois Law Library. In 2009, she helped found Decatur Is Growing Gardeners (DIGG), Inc., a nonprofit that promotes local vegetable growing by training residents (particularly low-income residents) to grow and market their own fresh produce. She currently serves as president of DIGG (Decatur is Growing Gardeners), which also donates vegetables and fruits to food pantries.

Carl Cannon enjoyed a distinguished military career including a number of Meritorious Service Medals. After retiring from the military after 16 years, he returned to Peoria, Illinois and is currently employed as the Supervisor for Youth Outreach Programming with the Peoria Park District. A community event motivated him to organize a program based on the Scared Straight concept where he, ex-inmates, and fellow officers informed youth about the truth of prison and prison life. The program motivates youth to stay in school, choose their role models well, exercise their brain and to be prepared for the "unguarded moments."

Learning from the Devou Park Trails: Making a Vision into Reality Through Partnerships
- Sarah Thompson Allan has been in the community development field for 15 years with a focus on asset-based development and utilizing the arts to foster economic development and community growth. She is currently an adjunct faculty at Eastern University, teaching on Arts in Economic and Community Development. At the Center for Great Neighborhoods, she focuses on housing and mixed use development.
- Jean St. John has been at the Center for Great Neighborhoods since 1994. She became Director of Community Arts Initiatives in 2000 through a three-year Kentucky Arts Council's Community Artist-in-Residency program. She facilitates community arts projects with neighborhood associations, develops and manages art-based youth development programs, and implements cultural heritage projects. Jean directs the youth (6-12th grades) arts-based micro enterprise program, Art by Covington's Future Enterprise program. She co-founded my "Nose Turns Red Theatre Company" and toured with the company for 15 years.

Mobilizing Your Neighborhood: A Primer For Community Activists
Michelle Higginbotham is a Commercial Realtor with Coldwell Banker Commercial and a community activist. She serves as Vice President of the Enos Park Neighborhood Improvement Association (Springfield, Illinois), a 100-year old neighborhood that recently completed Phase 1 of an aggressive Master Plan to revitalize the area. She is one of four managing members of Enos Park Development, LLC, an entity that was formed to begin land banking and implantation efforts for Phase II of the plan. She also serves as Vice President of Inner City Older Neighborhoods (ICON), a community group representing approximately 20 of the older areas of the city that lobby at the municipal level for changes to encourage urban redevelopment. Michelle was one of the recipients to receive the "Outstanding Collaborative Effort" Award in 2010 from Downtown Springfield, Inc. for her role in bringing the various neighborhood associations together to collectively lobby at the municipal and state level.

Over-The-Rhine: Why Green Preservation Is Your Greatest Untapped Asset
- Michael D. Morgan is an attorney, real estate agent and author of "Over-the-Rhine: When Beer Was King." He helped create the Prohibition Resistance tours of historic brewery sites in Over-the-Rhine (Cincinnati, OH) and has been the principal organizer of Bockfest since 2006. Morgan also serves as City of Cincinnati's Chair of the Board of Housing Appeals.

- W. Kevin Pape is President of Gray & Pape, Inc., a Cultural Resource Management firm in Cincinnati. Mr. Pape established the firm in 1986 and is a nationally recognized expert in cultural resources management, historic preservation, and contract archaeology. - Elizabeth (Liz) Blume has more than 16 years of experience leading comprehensive, municipal planning processes that focus on building healthy neighborhoods through citizen participation. She oversees the Place Matters project, a funding collaborative designed to implement a comprehensive community investment strategy in three neighborhoods. Naomi Penney PhD, is the Center of Social Concerns liaison with community organizations interested in pursuing research collaborations with Notre Dame faculty and students. Naomi earned her PhD in Evaluation and Research Design from Cornell University and has been a consultant to the Agency for Toxic Substances' Division of Health Assessment and Consultation, and to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Global AIDS Program as well as CDC's affiliate in Botswana. She has worked at local, state and federal level health agencies for over 10 years. Currently, she is on the South Bend, Indiana Neighborhood Resources Corporation as a representative for her neighborhood.

- Princess Davis - became a member of the Cincinnati Police Department in February of 1993. - Sergeant DeMeco D. Anderson earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. He also earned a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Cincinnati. In August 2001, he entered the Cincinnati Police Department's Academy, in the 91st Recruit Class, and upon graduation, in January 2002, was assigned to patrol in District Four. In 2004, he was transferred to the Violent Crimes Squad where he worked until 2006 when he was promoted to Sergeant. In 2009, Sergeant Anderson was transferred to the Vortex unit where he is presently assigned.

He served two terms as the President of the Ohio Crime Prevention Association. Prescription Drugs Take-Back & Disposal: A Community Effort for Northern Kentucky
- Paul D. Flaugher, PhD, is the local evaluator of the Kenton County Alliance, in Northern Kentucky. Over the past ten years he has served as local evaluator for a number of projects ranging from an Adolescent Drug Court project at the local level to a comprehensive wrap-around project oriented to seriously emotionally disturbed youth across eight counties.
- Kathy Nafus became the coordinator for Kenton County (KY) Alliance to Prevent Substance Abuse in 2007. Her responsibilities involve planning and implementing the coalition’s projects which include a campaign against underage drinking called "Project Sticker Shock," which is a campaign designed to reduce inhalant of young children through the education of parents. She also implements a prescription drug take-back program aimed at reducing drug abuse by teens, recruits coalition members and volunteers, and recruits the community and local businesses to become involved in the coalition's work.
