Muskies Sweep Hoosiers
Xavier had a special guest after Saturday's matinee
Alumni weekend provide just the added incentive for the Muskies to rebound from a tough loss to the UC Bearcats and avenge two earlier losses to the Hoosiers from Indiana. Xavier treated the crowd to a hard fought win on Friday night with a 6-4 victory. The big game of the weekend came on Saturday as the Muskies had numerous former players in the house and a special guest. X put together their best effort of the season with a 5 – 0 victory, earning their second shutout of the season. All of the coaches were thrilled with the effort of all the players. “We shook some things up this last week. We made line changes, committed to a new depth chart and challenged every player to give us a 100% effort. We got that on Saturday and as you can see, the results followed.” Driscoll added, “we are tough to handle when we play like that. When every guy seizes his ice time and makes the most of it. Good things are ahead if we build on this.”
It was great for the players to spend time with former teammates and revisit how far the program has come. Special thanks to former coach Chris Bergstrom for putting it together and especially for the incredibly generous gift all of the alums provide the team. The highlight of the weekend and for that matter, the season came after the game on Saturday was over and the competition ended. Current player Andrew Armstrong invited a special guest to the game. None other than Neil Armstrong himself! Mr. Armstrong spent a lot of time with the team, answered any questions they had and was gracious enough to allow the players to have some pictures taken. Judging by the Facebook posts afterwards, it was clear the team understood that they truly had just had a brush with an American Treasure.
