Muskies go 2 - 1 in the North-South Showdown
Wins against two nationally ranked teams serve as a measuring stick
X competed last weekend in the North South Showdown hosted by the Muskies themselves. The Muskies were in a battle with the Oakland Grizzlies for most of the first game with the score at 4-3 with 10 minutes to play but they ran out of gas in the third and were defeated handily. However, with a quick turnaround for a game the next morning against UNC, Xavier won 5-3. The evening ended with a clash against Ole Miss that saw the Muskies jump out to a commanding lead of 5-1 only to give it all back with the game ending in regulation in a 6-6 tie. Xavier took advantage of an early power play in over time and won 7-6. "Obviously we went into the tournament with goal of winning it and we are disappointed that we were not able to pull that off. 2-1 against teams like this is good but we aren't interested in moral victories. We have lofty goals and I hope we can grow from this and get our game to the next level." was how Coach Driscoll summarized the weekend. "I hope we learned that we can compete with anyone but there is no margin for error. These are sixty minute hockey games and if you don't give a full effort the entire game, it will be tough to win" he went on to say.
