Xavier Interfaith Club

Common Themes

Small Group Reflection

One of the core aspects of the Interfaith Club is strengthening ties though small group dialogue. If we are to be leaders of interfaith action both on campus and in the greater community, we need to develop such skills by actively discussing recent events and their impact on our religious or philosophical view. Sometimes the best way to know your own faith is by expressing it to someone else.

While all club meetings contain some amount of activity planning, some meetings will primarily focus on discussing recent events or learning about different religious traditions. As always, our small group is a place for openness and sharing in a safe environment. We expect to grow in our own traditions by learning from and reflecting upon those of others. See our Rules and Conduct section for guidelines about dialogue.

Service Learning

One value at the core of almost all religious traditions is service to others. As a Jesuit university, one of Xavier’s goals is to develop students as women and men for others. By taking part in service projects, we seek to apply that common value of social action, working to improve the well-being of not only our surrounding community but also the world at large. Working together on service issues acts as a catalyst for interfaith dialogue on common ground. One of our annual service events is the Academic Day Interfaith Prayer & Service, with other service events possible throughout the year at a variety of different locations.
