Career Services Center
Things to do while on campus
- Many national companies interview at Xavier's Career Services Center (CSC). This first interview with the company can lead to further interviews with the company in your desired location.
- The Career Services Center's Career Resource Library contains a great deal of information on job searching. For an out of town job search, you may want to review the Job Bank Series.
- The National Alumni Foundation has chapters in larger cities across the country. Where Xavier Alumni chapters exist consider connecting with these people to find out about the local job market and the date of the next alumni club event. These are great opportunities for networking and can help you meet, develop and cultivate professional relationships in your area of interest. Visit the Alumni & Friends website for further details.
- Reciprocity: Several Jesuit colleges and universities across the country offer career services to Xavier students or alumni through a reciprocal agreement. The Career Services center will write a letter to colleges or universities in a location that you select asking the school to provide you with whatever services they give their alumni. In return, the Career Services Center will service their alumni as part of the reciprocal agreement. Colleges and universities vary as to what services are provided, and sometimes a fee is involved. Find out which resources you can access. Ask the CSC office to send a letter for you requesting reciprocal services at local university career centers by completing the Jesuit Career Services Reciprocity Request Form.
- Consult the telephone and Internet Yellow Pages for lists of potential employers.
- Visit potential employer websites to review job vacancies, newsletters, annual reports, etc.
- Find out when professional associations in your field of interest will meet next.
- Ask the Chamber of Commerce in your desired location to send you any newcomer materials or lists of employers. Find a chamber in your area.
- Go to McDonald Library. There you can research companies on Compact Disclosure and in numerous publications including: Ward's Business Directory, National Job Bank Series, various industry-specific guides and comprehensive directories of company listings. The library also has a section on Company Annual Reports.
