Internship Exchange/Work Permit Programs

A few reciprocal exchange programs offer paying internships in applied fields. If you obtain your own internship overseas, these organizations can also assist you in finding work permits.

AIESEC

AIESEC, in 80 plus countries, is a student-run international organization with chapters on many campuses, offers business-related internships open to all majors. AIESEC members have preference in getting these internships. See AIESEC's web site.

BUNAC

Programs available for Britain, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Peru, and Cambodia.

The Nambu Foundation

Non-profit organization allowing outstanding undergraduate and graduate students to participate in a two month internship at a Japanese company.

Work and Travel Ireland

Work anywhere in Ireland at any time of the year. You can work in any field, full time paid employment, as many jobs as you like, from 2 days to 4 months.

American-Scandinavian Foundation

In Scandinavian countries, it has placements in engineering.

CDS

In Germany, CDS has several different programs in business and technical fields for undergraduates, graduates, and professionals; applicants must know some German.

CIEE

Offers international work, study, volunteer programs for students, graduates & professionals. Participating countries: France, Ireland, Germany, Canada, Cost Rica, New Zeland, & Australia.

French American Chamber of Commerce

Internships available in both public sector (local government, museums, research laboratories) and private sector (primarily American companies operating in France). Internships in the public sector range from 1-9 months. Internships in the private sector do not exceed three months. Applicants must be able to read and speak French.

Interexchange

Various programs (summer and year-long) for both US and non-US citizens. Work programs in the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Norway, and Switzerland and au pair programs in Austria, Finland, France (summer and year), Italy, Netherlands, Norway and Spain.

Mountbatten Internship Program

The Mountbatten Internship Programme offers young Americans with a Bachelor's degree the opportunity to pursue a 12-month paid internship in the business environment of a London based organization. The internship year provides practical experience in business, while also developing international and cross-cultural awareness through residence in Britain. The internships reflect different fields including investment banking and financial services, accounting, business, law, HR and executive search, marketing, research, and more.

Robert Bosch Foundation

The Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program sponsors Americans with strong academic and professional backgrounds to experience German culture through high-level internships. The fellows hold two internships during the course of their nine-month internship. The first is generally in a governmental institution and the second is in a business environment.

Transatlantic Program

Projects to provide American citizens with facts on Germany and to bring the two nations closer together. Financed from European Recovery Programm (ERP) Special Funds provided by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour and is supported by the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest (GACCoM) and additional corporate sponsors.

This is a program for students interested in the possibility of participating as an exchange intern at the Guggenheim Bilbao. Must be fluent in Spanish and have a serious commitment to the Museum work.
