Internships & Co-ops
Want to gain valuable, practical career experience, but unsure how? CSC can help!
Student work experiences go by different names, but the one thing they all have in common is they give students valuable career-related experience that makes a difference in post-graduate employment.
Why do an internship or co-op?
- Develop professional skills necessary for success in the workforce
- "Try out" jobs related to your major or field of study
- Apply what you are learning in the classroom in a real world setting
- Earn money and/or academic credit
- Become more marketable for your future career - research shows that students with more work-related experience were employed more quickly, were more likely to be employed in their field of study, and were more satisfied with their positions.
Internships and co-ops can be paid or unpaid, for academic credit or not, full or part time, during the academic semesters or during the summer.
How do I find an internship or co-op?
- Check with your faculty or academic advisor Depending on your major, an internship/co-op may be a required part of your academic studies. Even when not required, many departments will offer academic credit for related internship/co-op experience.
- Schedule an appointment with a Career Counselor or the Experiential Opportunities Coordinator (link to appointment information)
