Peace & Justice Volunteer Fair
The 2008 Peace & Justice Volunteer will take place on Monday, October 27, 2008 from 7-9:00 p.m. in the Cintas/Schiff Family Conference Center.
The Peace and Justice Volunteer Fair is a post-graduate volunteer fair (similar to a career fair). It is open to all students interested in pursuing local, domestic, or international service after they graduate. In attendance are various agencies and organizations working for social change including Americorps, Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Notre Dame Volunteer Corps, Camp Joy, Maryknoll, and Alliance for Catholic Education to name a few.
Representatives from the agencies and organizations gather at this fair on campus to meet and talk with students. It is a networking event to become familiar with the particular opportunities, work, and experiences the attending organizations offer. This fair takes place in the fall semester, and is coordinated by the Peace and Justice Programs and Career Services. The registrants collaborate with John Carroll University and University of Dayton by attending post-graduate fair on these campuses during the same week in the fall semester.
Event atmosphere
This Volunteer Fair is a relaxed atmosphere. The representatives are looking to get to know people and students. Though it might be helpful to come prepared with resume in hand, it is certainly not required or expected. This is an excellent opportunity to meet, talk and build relationship between students and organizations. Business Casual to Casual is appropriate attire; look presentable.
History
The Peace and Justice Volunteer Fair was initiated by Peace and Justice Programs in the Fall of 2004 in collaboration with the University of Dayton and the fair played host to organizations and agencies during the day that year in Gallagher Student Center. The two consecutive years following it grew in number of participants, agencies/organizations and students. It also was moved to the Cintas/Schiff Family Conference Center Duff Banquet Room and held in the evening. In 2005 John Carroll in Cleveland joined Xavier and Dayton to form the volunteer fair "Ohio Loop." The fair has been a coordinated effort between Peace and Justice Programs and the Career Services Center.
