Class Year/Year of Graduation:  2011

Major/Graduate Program:  Masters in Sport Administration

Newly hired as (position, company):  Account Executive - Penn State Athletics, IMG College Sports

Where did you hear about this professional opportunity, and what do you think contributed to being hired?   I originally applied for a position with a different university, but they ended up sending my resume to Penn State. We went through a few interviews before I was offered the job. I feel that my education background along with my work/internship experience definitely helped me get this job.

How did Xavier Career Services help you along the way to achieve this accomplishment?
Dr. Olberding contacted Rick Browne in career services and let him know that I had been interviewing with a lot of different sport teams and universities. So we went over what to do/not do throughout an interview. We also did a couple mock interviews and taped one of them. The one that we taped I was able to watch, and I learned a lot from doing the mock interviews. I still use what I learned from Career Services everyday throughout my career.

Based on your own experiences, what advice do you have for students as they gear up for their job/internship search?  Look over the organization that you are interviewing for and make sure you know what their organization is about. Also practice your interviewing too. And remember that a lot of internships aren't paid, but if you know this is something that you definitely want to do it will be worth it at the end. And once you get that internship, make sure that you try your best and definitely network with everyone you meet throughout your internships.
