Xavier University Mentoring Program
About the Program
The Xavier University Mentoring Program is not a traditional mentor program whereby mentors counsel and nurture a student on academic growth or personal direction. This program goes beyond these fundamental activities by offering students professional development with regards to résumé writing, networking and career connections. The goal of this program is to give Xavier students a viable and effective network of contacts to assist them in their academic planning and career endeavors. Being a mentor allows a person to advise and impact the next generation of leaders. Mentors have an opportunity to share their wealth of experiences, knowledge and skills with a student mentee. A student is individually selected by the mentor to provide guidance throughout the student’s time at Xavier. Mentors act as a coach and role model with the intent to promote the student’s personal, professional and academic growth.
Student Testimonial
“My mentor, Lisa Muhlenkamp, and I are in constant correspondence. She’s reviewed my résumé and gives me helpful perspectives from within the field. I utilize what she says in combination with feedback from Career Services and faculty to give me a true representation of what my résumé should look like. I’m always telling people to get involved in this program because it is fun and people would really benefit a lot from it. I certainly wouldn’t be making any connections I have now with my current internship at Cincy Chic if it weren’t for my mentor since she was the one that initially told me about it. I can ask my mentor anything! She shares events with me to offer different aspects of event planning since she works more with the corporate site. Overall, my mentor allows me to see different aspects of event planning and PR, and I appreciate that.”

Mentor Spotlight
"It's been a great first year with my mentee, Jenna Steiger (Communication Arts/Public Relations, Theology minor). As a Mentor, I offer support, strategies, and encouragement. We both share our experiences and insights and enrich each other. I am honored to share in the hopes and aspirations of a young Xavier student and appreciate the strengthened ties to the Xavier community."
