About the Program

The Mentoring program provides a variety of benefits to Xavier students as well as Xavier University as a whole.

Students participating in this program will:

·        Receive advice and encouragement on personal growth and development.
·         Know the world outside of the classroom and Xavier's campus.
·         Become a confident graduate with exceptional leadership, teamwork, creative thinking and interpersonal skills through mentor coaching and feedback.
·         Obtain their mentor's opinion on academic progress, course work, research and post-graduate education.
·         Better understand and confirm their chosen degree.
·         See networking skills in action or through other opportunities provided by their mentor.
·         Have support in seeking internships, co-ops or part-time job opportunities.
·         Be equipped with the insight and tools to make informed and ethical career decisions.

Research has shown that mentoring programs on campus can assist universities in multiple ways through:

·         Increase student productivity and commitment
·         Higher recruitment and retention of students, especially those from underrepresented groups
·         Improved skills and knowledge of students to be better prepared upon graduation
·         Enhanced visibility of Xavier's name to various employers and community members
·         Greater student satisfaction upon graduation with their alma mater, resulting from the skills and knowledge learned to become successful

A student is individually selected by the mentor to provide guidance throughout the student’s time at Xavier. Mentors act as a coach and role model with the intent to promote their student’s personal, professional, and academic growth.
