What is the Diversity Reception?

The Diversity Reception is a networking event that allows organizations to connect with students and alumni from diverse backgrounds in an effort to reach their recruitment goals.  It was established to allow organizations that support and embrace diversity initiatives to connect with students  and alumni from diverse backgrounds. The Diversity Reception is held annually prior to the Spring Career Fair. We encourage employers to attend this event to begin building relationships with students and alumni prior to attending the Spring Career Fair.  It allows your organization, through conversations and relationship building, to provide information to students  and alumni as well as answer any questions they may have about your organization.

What is the format of this event?

This is a true networking event with minimal seating. Unlike a fair, there will not be individual tables/sections for each organization.  Organizational representatives and students/alumni will interact freely in hopes of establishing relationships.  We encourage representatives to bring business cards.  We will also have pre-printed name badges for each representative, however we encourage you to wear your organization name tag if you have one. The event is scheduled from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm, however the students/alumni can arrive and leave based on their schedules.

We encourage representatives to stay for at least an 1.5 hours to interact with the most students/alumni.  Please do not bring any signage/materials as you will not have a specific table.

We will have light refreshments/hor d'oeuvres during the event.

Why should my organization attend this event?

This is a great opportunity for representatives from your organization to build relationships with students and alumni.  In addition to filling immediate positions, you could begin to build your pipeline for future positions by connecting with younger students. We encourage you to consider becoming a sponsor of the event to increase your exposure before, during and after the event!

How do I Register myself or other members of my team to attend?

Do attendees have to be human resources personnel?

Because this event happens the prior to the career fair, individuals from your organization attending the Diversity Reception do not necessarily have to be human resources personnel, however we would like for the attendee(s) to be able to speak about your organization in general and specifically about any diversity related initiative.
