Again this year, Xavier accounting students are helping to prepare tax returns for low income, elderly and student taxpayers on Monday evenings beginning on Feb. 18 and continuing on March 4, 11 and 18, and April 1, 8 and 15. Help is available by appointment at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. each evening.
The students are offering free basic federal and state income tax assistance to the Xavier, Norwood, Evanston and Avondale communities through the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. This is the 19th year that Xavier students have offered this service.
Getting help is easy, says student coordinator Victoria Masny, a senior in accounting at Xavier. First, call 513-745-2828 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule an appointment. It is first-come, first-served during those time slots. Taxpayers must bring the following items to the appointment:
• A photo ID.
• Your W2 forms and 1099 forms. Your last pay stub is not enough.
• Social Security Cards for you, your spouse and your dependents. Just bringing the number is not sufficient.
• Any other tax-related documents.
• A copy of last year’s tax return if possible.
The students will be set up in the Schiff Conference Center Banquet Rooms in the Cintas Center. Free parking is available. For additional information, contact Priscilla O’Clock, professor of accountancy and business law in the Williams College of Business, at 513-745-4245.
