Xavier, UC reach 10-year agreement to continue Crosstown Shootout, with rivalry returning to campuses

The 2014-2015 game will be played in February at UC's Fifth Third Arena | May 12, 2014

The University of Cincinnati and Xavier University announced that the schools have completed a 10-year agreement to continue the annual men’s basketball rivalry between the two schools. In addition, the storied basketball rivalry will return to campus sites and renew the popular long-time title of Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout.

“We are committed to providing our collective student-athletes and fan bases with the optimum collegiate environment on the national stage,” Mike Bohn, UC’s Director of Athletics said. “The on-campus venues will enhance the bond with students, alumni and community partners.”

The annual XU-UC game has been sponsored by Skyline Chili for 25 years and was known from the 1989-1990 season through the 2011-2012 season as the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout. The game will return to that tradition this season, as Coach Chris Mack and Xavier Director for Athletics Greg Christopher explained in a videotaped interview on GoXavier.com.

The 2014-2015 edition of the Crosstown Shootout will be the 82nd all-time meeting in the series. It will be played Feb. 18, 2015, at UC’s Fifth Third Arena. The 2015-2016 edition of the Crosstown Shootout will be played  Dec. 12, 2015, at Xavier's Cintas Center.

The 2014-2015 game will be televised by ESPN2 as a part of the network’s annual rivalry week. FOX Sports holds the rights to the 2015-2016 game.

“The Crosstown Shootout is our city’s game,” said Christopher. “It’s an important part of Cincinnati’s sports landscape and I’m glad its long-term future is secure. Returning the game to our campuses is an opportunity to re-set the Shootout in a positive light.”

The 2014-2015 meeting will mark the 12th time that the game will be played at Fifth Third Arena. The 2015-2016 game will mark the seventh meeting at Cintas Center.

Starting with the 2014-2015 meeting at Fifth Third Arena, the annual game will be a part of the home institution’s season ticket packages.
