This year, Xavier University’s Department of Management Information Systems will be offering an opportunity for its students to gain certification in Predictive Modeling Using SAS Enterprise Miner®. Predictive modeling is the process by which a model is created or chosen to best predict the probability of an outcome. Businesses seek this skill as they can improve their decision making through exploration of large quantities of data. With certification, SAS offers a credential for predictive modelers worldwide to validate their expertise and increase their value in the marketplace.
By partnering with SAS©, Xavier becomes the only school in the state to offer this exam onsite. “With businesses increasing their emphasis on assurance of learning in analytics,” says Greg Smith, assistant professor of MIS at Xavier, “we jumped at the opportunity to team up with SAS© and offer this validation of predictive modeling skills.”
Xavier’s undergraduate and graduate courses in data mining have been structured to provide hands-on training with SAS Enterprise Miner®, a GUI (Graphical User Interface) data mining software platform. Students will learn to prepare data, construct predictive models, assess models, and implement models in SAS Enterprise Miner ®. At the conclusion of the course, students will have completed basic certification exam preparation by covering the entire test content as prescribed by SAS©. Students may then choose to take the PC-based Predictive Modeling Certification exam at Xavier. The testing program at Xavier, under the direction of Dr. Greg Smith, plans to offer test sessions twice per year. Xavier will invite students and practitioners throughout the region to take the exam at Xavier. For more information on certification, please call Greg Smith at 513-745-3245.
