Again this year, Xavier University accounting students will help prepare tax returns for low income, elderly and student taxpayers on Monday evenings Feb 18, Mar 4, Mar 11, Mar 18, Apr 1, Apr 8 and Apr 15. Help is available by appointment only, at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. each evening.
The students are offering free basic Federal and State income tax assistance to the Xavier, Norwood, Evanston, and Avondale communities through the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA).
Getting help is easy, says student coordinator Victoria Masny, a senior in accounting at Xavier. First, call 513-745-2828 or email email@example.com to schedule an appointment. It is first come first served at those time slots. The following items must be brought to the appointment:
• a photo ID
• your W2s, 1099s (your last pay stub is not enough)
• Social Security Cards (for you, your spouse, and your dependents) – just bringing the number is NOT sufficient
• any tax-related documents
• a copy of last year’s tax return (if possible)
The students will be set up in the Schiff Conference Center Banquet Rooms in Xavier’s Cintas Center. Free parking is available at the Cintas Center.
This is the 19th year that Xavier students have offered this service. For additional information, contact Dr. Priscilla O’Clock, Accountancy Department, 513-745-4245 (office).
