Xavier University Men’s Volleyball Club
The men’s club volleyball team has had a successful fall semester in a turn-around year for the club. After ending last year with only 6 committed members, the team has a new attitude, building a young team of 13 guys, 10 of which are freshmen and sophomores. With the funds we received at the beginning of the year we were able to purchase new balls and a ball cart, as well as pay for tournaments at Michigan State and Dayton. Recently, we also found out Nationals will be held the first week of April in Houston, Texas and were able to purchase air travel in and out of Columbus for relatively cheap.
On top of that our team has completed over 125 hours of service this semester. We have volunteered at events like the Cincinnati Pro Beach Volleyball Tournament, Reggae Run, XU Girl’s Club Volleyball tournament, and we were even lucky enough to travel to La Grange, Kentucky to volunteer by playing a prison men’s volleyball team creating an experience of a lifetime. In our first tournament this year, we came in 1st in the Silver Bracket at UD, then tied for 5th out of 28 teams at Michigan State’s annual Hardwood Classic in November.
For the upcoming spring semester, we are looking to fundraise through apparel sales, Dominos buy one get one free cards, and hosting indoor and sand volleyball tournaments, not to mention donations are always welcome too. Another big step we are trying to take is to establish an alumni system to keep in touch with all former players.
