Xavier’s Department of Social Work is celebrating National Social Work Month and 30 years as an accredited bachelor’s program with a special event for students, alumni and the public on the topic “The Cross-reporting of Interpersonal Violence and Animal Cruelty: Considerations for Social Work Practice.”
Former faculty member and department chair Dennis Long, PhD, returns from his current position at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte to present at the event, to be held on Wednesday, March 21, from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. in the Schiff Conference Center in the Cintas Center.
In related news, Long has been hired as the new associate dean of the College of Social Sciences, Health, and Education. He starts at Xavier on July 1.
The social work event is sponsored by the Department of Social Work and the Students for Social Work Organization. For information about registration, please email Peggy Hubbard at Hubbard@xavier.edu. For information about the presentation or the department, call 513-745-4262 or visit the department's website.
As one of the oldest bachelor’s-level programs in the nation, the Department of Social Work offers the Bachelor of Social Work degree. The department evolved from Edgecliff College’s social work program, when Xavier purchased Edgecliff in 1980.
