A one-mile walk/run around the Xavier University campus will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, to support the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. The event starts in front of Bellarmine Chapel. Shirts are available for $20, with proceeds benefitting “One Fund Boston,” set up by Boston officials to help bombing victims.
Malia Smolenski of Loveland was one of the organizers of Xavier’s Nearly Naked Mile run which raises funds for Xavier’s Interfaith Medical Mission to Guatemala. Smolenski was on this year’s trip. In her frustration to do something to remember and help the victims of the Boston bombs, she thought of how powerful the Nearly Naked Mile was and decided to resurrect it for this cause. Mouhamed Ndoye, of Sidney, Ohio, a participant in the 2012 Guatemala medical trip, designed the Run To Remember T-shirt.
The race is sponsored by Xavier’s Center for Interfaith Community Engagement.
