Music and Theatre Announce Ensemble in Residence

Double or Nothing Ensemble features double reed professionals | August 21, 2012

The Xavier University Department of Music and Theatre is pleased to announce our first ever Ensemble-in-Residence: the Double or Nothing Ensemble.

The four members of the ensemble, Julie Grasso, Connie Ignatiou, Lauren Piccirillo and Melissa Walding are all professional double reed players and teachers in the greater Cincinnati area. Double or Nothing performs repertoire from the Baroque period to contemporary music, offering creative and inspired programming for audiences of all ages. Their concerts often include works by composers such as Bach, Handel and Debussy, as well as the players’ original compositions and arrangements of popular hits by well-known contemporary artists. The group will collaborate with Dr. Matthew Westgate and players from the Xavier University Symphonic Winds in rehearsals and performances throughout the year. In addition to their work with the Symphonic Winds, Double or Nothing will work as coaches for student chamber ensembles, perform outreach concerts at local high schools, and perform their own concert series on Xavier's campus. This unique partnership is destined to become a model for other universities.

Double or Nothing, in collaboration with the Xavier University Music and Theatre Department, plans to host a double reed summer camp for local junior high and high school students at Xavier in 2013.
