Members of Xavier's Human Resource Development master's degree program are holding an information session on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the Schiff Family Conference Center at the Cintas Center on campus. HRD faculty, alumni, students and representatives from the Office of Graduate Services are discussing the benefits of becoming an HRD professional and the Xavier program and its curriculum.
The profession is pertinent in today's economic climate as 75 percent of all workers currently employed will need retraining as they change jobs, and $200 billion will be spent on training.
Human Resource Development (HRD) is the integrated use of training, organizational development and career development efforts to improve individual, group and organizational effectiveness. HRD practitioners enable individuals in organizations to perform current and future jobs through planned learning activities. They help organizations initiate and manage change and ensure a match between an individual’s needs and the organization’s needs. HRD is one part of the general field of Human Resources, others being labor relations, employee assistance, compensation, benefits and staffing.
The Executive HRD program at Xavier covers the specific areas of training and development, career development, and organizational development. Xavier's program is designed to develop ethical, competent, professional leaders who can perform effectively in critical HRD roles, such as administrator, training manager or director, management development specialist, organization change agent, program designer or individual career development advisor.
Xavier’s program provides student-centered, practical and current educational experiences from experienced HRD educators and professionals. The cohort-type program allows students to enter and progress with the same group for 24 weekends over a 21-month period.
