All That Jazz!

News Highlights Related to XU Jazz | February 12, 2013

Congratulations to two members of the Xavier University Jazz Ensemble for being nominated and selected to participate in an Honors Jazz Band through the Ohio Private College Instrumental Conductors Association (OPCICA). Nathan Wolfe, a freshman trumpet player, and Kyle Grim, a sophomore trombonist, performed with 15 other collegiate musicians from around the state of Ohio in January at Muskingum University.

Jennifer Grantham, Adjunct Professor, has been accepted to perform as part of a saxophone duo at the Region 5 Conference of North American Saxophone Alliance. The conference will take place at Bowling Green State University, March 1-3, 2013.

The Jazz Ensemble is excited to welcome critically acclaimed jazz musician, Rick VanMatre, as its guest artist for the 2012-2013 season. The concert, Money Jungle, will highlight the brief musical partnership between Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus. Mr. VanMatre will perform with the Jazz Ensemble and the faculty jazz group, the Jazz Xtet on April 4, 2013, at 7:30 pm in Gallagher Theater. The concert is free and open to the public.
