Xavier University"s Class of 2014 Making History

“History in the Making” is the theme this Friday, August 20 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. when Xavier University’s Class of 2014 moves into their on-campus homes. These students are starting their Xavier careers as Xavier completes the largest expansion in its history with the Hoff Academic Quadrangle.

Xavier University continues to rise steadily and has been ranked 121th in the country by Forbes magazine and the Center for College Affordability and Productivity (CCAP). That is up from 196th last year and 225th the year before that.

Xavier is one of 152 institutions The Princeton Review recommends in its “Best in the Midwest” section of its website feature, “2011 Best Colleges: Region by Region,” that was posted August 2, 2010 on PrincetonReview.com.

Mendota Heights, MN native and Xavier University alumna Elizabeth Fichtel is the winner of the 2009-10 Award.

Xavier Group Serves Guatemalan Orphanages

Twenty-one people traveled to Guatemala from June 11-20. Nine students, eight practitioners, three faculty, and the Dean of Xavier’s College of Social Sciences, Health and Education participated. The students will follow up with more course-related activities this fall around servicing underprivileged populations. The practitioners donated their time and expertise.

Two Xavier Chemistry Graduates Publish Pivotal Study in International Journal

Dawn M. Makley, a 2007 magna cum laude graduate of Xavier University, has co-authored an article published in the journal Nature. The research will aid medicinal chemists in making biologically-active compounds that might battle disease. Makley was a double major in chemical science and biology at Xavier and is currently a PhD candidate in chemistry at Vanderbilt University, working under the mentorship of Professor Jeffrey N. Johnston, a 1992 graduate of Xavier’s chemistry department.

Xavier Staff Move to Conaton Learning Commons in New Hoff Academic Quad

On Tuesday, July 20 at approximately 10:00 a.m. the first move will be made to the new Michael J. Conaton Learning Commons (CLC) located on the southwest corner of Dana and Ledgewood Avenues. Other moves will be made during the rest of the week. The moves include Discovery Services and the math and writing academic labs. A total of 24 faculty and staff will be moved during the week.
