Xavier has been named a Military Friendly School for 2013 by Victory Media, the fourth straight year Xavier has been recognized. Previously, Xavier has been among the top 20 percent in the nation but this year is among the top 15 percent.
The complete list is at militaryfriendlyschools.com. It honors colleges, universities and trade schools doing the most to embrace America’s veterans as students. The schools’ common bond is their shared priority of recruiting students with military experience.
"It is a great honor for Xavier to be recognized as one of the nation’s leading military-friendly schools,” says Nate Davis, director of the Office of Veterans Affairs. “We have enabled student veterans to build upon their strengths and experiences as they earn undergraduate and graduate degrees, integrating an understanding of Xavier's mission and Jesuit tradition. Xavier has the best resources, support, and the most dedicated faculty and staff. As more veterans return, we will seek new ways to best serve those who have served."
Schools listed offer various programs for veterans including, student veterans’ on-campus programs, credit for service and military spouse programs. Criteria for making the Military Friendly Schools list included efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students and academic accreditations.
The list was compiled through extensive research of more than 12,000 schools nationwide polled. G.I. Jobs surveyed student veterans, providing prospective military students with insight into the student veteran experience at an institution based on peer reviews from current students A full story and detailed list of 2013 Military Friendly Schools ® will be highlighted in the annual G.I. Jobs Guide to Military Friendly Schools ®, distributed in print and digital format to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in early October.
