Fifth Year of Interfaith Food

On October 9, students at Xavier University will have the opportunity to learn about Thai culture, faith and food in their own dining hall.From 4:30 - 8 pm, the Hoff Dining Commons in Fenwick Place and Zab Thai Kitchen (in the Shoppes of Loveland at 10667 Loveland-Madeira Rd) will serve Thai cuisine. Chef Paendin "Toon" Yongkanaysin has worked with Jeff Ledford, executive chef of the Hoff Dining Commons, to create authentic Thai food. Toon and her partner, Srinuan "Cindy" Yantarasri, ran Beluga in Hyde Park for 11 years. At Xavier, the menu will feature:

• Tom Kha Kai (Blue Ginger Soup)
• Kee Mao (Basil Noodles) with Chicken
• Keaw Waan (Green Curry) with Tofu
• Forbidden Rice Pudding

Zab means "delicious, spicy, hot" and describes the fresh and authentic Thai cuisine and curries created by co-owner and chef Yongkanaysin.

Rabbi Abie Ingber founded the office of interfaith community engagement at Xavier University to help students deepen their own personal faith and gain a better understanding of others’ traditions. One of his many enjoyable projects has been Different Foods, Different Faiths, One Community. Ethnic restaurant owners share their culture, immigration story and foods to show that no matter where we come from or what faith we practice, we are all very similar. Ingber greets students as they enter Hoff Dining Hall and encourages them to try a new dish and learn about a new culture.

The program is a collaboration of Xavier dining services by Chartwell’s, the office of interfaith community engagement and auxiliary services. Previous meals have been created featuring the ethnic dishes of Dusmesh Indian Restaurant, Song Long Vietnamese Restaurant and Andy’s Mediterranean Grill.
