Xavier Drops Big Game to Holy Cross

Friday Game PPD | November 1, 2011

The Holy Cross Saints visited the Muskies on Saturday afternoon at the Gardens for what was to be a game used as a measuring stick. Holy Cross is one of the most respected programs in the league and set the standard for which many teams measure themselves against. The Muskies got down 3 – 0 but battled back to get within one at 3-2 at the end of two periods. They had numerous chances to draw even in that period or even go ahead but a number of great saves by the opposing goalie along with about four goal posts found X with a one goal deficit. Unfortunately, when the intensity needed to reach its peak, the Muskies let down for just a minute and as is often the case, good teams like Holy Cross take advantage and the Muskies were down 5 – 2. The team never bounced back and suffered a disappointing loss with a final score of 8 – 3.

“In all honesty, I just feel bad for the guys. They were on the door step and just could not rise to the occasion and get over the hump. We need all nineteen guys to play with mental toughness and until that happens, it will be a real challenge to beat the likes of a Holy Cross. Some guys are there and some guys just are not. We will make adjustments this week and come out with renewed focus. Nobody has more confidence in them than me. All the coaches feel that way, now they just need to believe in themselves.” Said Coach Driscoll.

The Muskies would also like to apologize to the coaches, players, and families of Holy Cross for the mix-up on Friday. The Musketeers take full responsibility and will take care of the matter with Holy Cross
