Xavier Splits Final Series Of Season With IU

Muskies end with best record in program history | February 16, 2011

This past weekend, the Musketeers traveled to Bloomington to take on the Hoosiers of IU. The Muskies beat the Hoosiers 8-6 and 8-4 in their first two meetings during the first semester. Friday night saw the short benched Xavier team jump out to an early lead only to see that lead diminish to 6-5 after two periods. The third period was a back and forth one, but saw the Muskies net an empty netter to hold on to the lead and win by a score of 10-7.

Saturday, Xavier's missing players from Friday returned to the lineup. The first two period went back and forth but the Muskies could never grab ahold of the lead from the Hoosiers. The Muskies went into the locker room trailing the Hoosiers 6-5. In the locker room, the Muskies seemed determined that they could make another comeback and try and win the game for the Seniors on the team who were about to play their last period in a Xavier Uniform. Unfortunately, Xavier could not hold the momentum in their favor and lost the game 10-7. The tone in the locker room after the game was quite somber as the players all took time to reflect on the loss and the season as a whole. Hugs were shared between the players and coaches as well as thanks to the Seniors on the team: Dan Benson, Scott Chesneck, Charlie Clemency, and Scott Caine. The tone was uplifted by head coach, Tim Driscoll. Coach Driscoll told the boy to not hang their heads due to the fact that the Muskies recorded the best record in program history, 14-6-1. The Muskies departed the Frank Southern Ice Arena and headed back to the team hotel to enjoy one last night together as a team.

The Musketeers would like to say thanks to all fans who came out this season to cheer on their team. We hope to see this continued spirit in the coming years. We would also like to thank Brian Hartzell, Head of Game Day Operations, for his hard work and passion for Xavier Ice Hockey. We would also like to inform you that this will be the final season for Assistant Coach Chris Bergstrom. We would like to thank Chris for all his hard work since 2005. Chris reestablished the program with some other students in 2005 and has been involved ever since. Without Chris, none of us would be playing hockey at Xavier, thanks Chris and we wish you all the best in the future. Also a special thanks to all of our seniors for all their hard work and dedication the past four years.
