Family Weekend and Musketeer Madness offer visiting families and basketball fans plenty to do

Both events take place on campus this weekend | October 19, 2010

Musketeer Madness, the annual start of the basketball season, takes place during Xavier's Family Weekend which kicks off its festivities on Friday, Oct. 22, and continues through Sunday, Oct. 24.

During Family Weekend, students invite parents and siblings to explore their home-away-from home and experience life on campus. Families can choose from many events such as the Xavier Players’ production of Ragtime, athletic competitions including men's rugby and soccer and women's volleyball, musical presentations including the Gospel Choir, bingo, and brunch on Saturday and Sunday. A Mass is also offered on Sunday.

The highlight of the weekend is Musketeer Madness which takes place on Saturday, Oct. 23. The annual tip-off to the basketball season is free and open to everyone including Family Weekend participants. Musketeer Madness 2010, hosted by Xavier Athletics and presented by Skyline Chili, begins with Fan Fest on the plaza in front of the Cintas Center starting at 4:00 p.m. Fans will have the chance to get autographs from members of the men's and women's basketball teams until 5:45 p.m.

Other activities include inflatable games for children, a balloon artist, corn hole and more. Skyline Chili and Trauth Dairy will be serving chili and ice cream. The fun continues as both teams are introduced at 6:20 p.m. and then participate in intra-squad scrimmages. The Xavier band, cheerleaders and dance team are also performing in support of Musketeer Madness. This year's X-shirt is also being unveiled and can be purchased at the event for $18 each.
