Women of Excellence Announces Schedule of Events

Women of Excellence is pleased to present a number of events and programs from January through May that will continue the celebration of the 40th anniversary of women at Xavier University. The range of events profiled here are intended to meet the varied interests of the many women of Xavier University. These events are made possible through the generous support of Ann Buenger. 

January 17, 2010 – Madcap Puppet Theatre and Xavier Players
Toby and the Ice Goblin
The January 17th 1:00 p.m. performance is available for Women of Excellence and the special    children in their lives. Meet the puppets/actors immediately following the performance. Student alumni association will provide refreshments and activities for the children.

February 18, 2010 - Young Alumnae Wine and Cheese Reception and Performance of Spike Heels by Theresa Rebek
Come together with other Xavier young alums for an evening of entertainment. Enjoy wine and cheese in the Clock Tower before the performance and be prepared to LOL at this contemporary comedy written by award winning playwright Theresa Rebek.  
Pygmalion goes awry in this contemporary comedy of manners which explores sexual harassment, misplaced amour, and the possibility of a four sided love triangle. This modern, smart comedy gives us two extraordinary women in ordinary circumstances who burst bubbles in their respective relationships.

NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament at Cintas Center
The first and second rounds of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament will be played at Xavier’s arena in the Cintas Center. We’re planning a pre-game event on March 21st. Game times will be set one week prior – so check back for more details. 
March 25, 2010 – WCB and WOX Distinguished Speaker Series
Inclusion and Diversity in Business: A Journey of Lessons Learned - Karen Wells, Vice president of Strategy and Menu for McDonalds USA, LLC.
A 1986 graduate of the WCB and Xavier University, Karen Wells is responsible for developing and communicating fully integrated, cross-functional plans to drive long-term growth against the core McDonald’s U.S. business. She oversees a talented and innovative team to develop and help shape the McDonald’s menu for the more than 26 million U.S. customers we serve every day. As a member of the McDonald’s U.S. Leadership Team, she also focuses on expanding strategic partnerships and alliances across all facets of the McDonald’s U.S. business both internally, with franchisees, and with suppliers. Hear about her journey and the role inclusion and diversity plays in her career.

April 22, 2010 - The Influence of Mary on Ignatius Loyola
In 2006 Drs. Margo Heydt and Sara Melcher participated in a ten day Ignatian pilgrimage with colleagues from Xavier University and other Jesuit institutions. They will share their reflections on the significant influence of Mary, the mother of Jesus, in the transformation of Ignatius of Loyola from a Spanish soldier of nobility to the spiritual founder of the Jesuits.

April 28, 2010 – The Women of Excellence 2nd Annual Awards Luncheon
The Women of Excellence will announce the 2010 recipients of the Giving Circle grants at this 2nd annual awards luncheon.   Join us to hear more about the deserving programs and projects proposed by Xavier faculty, staff and student groups.

May 20, 2010 - Adsum: Contemporary Paintings on Ignatian Spirituality
Xavier alum and artist, Holly Schapker, also participated in a ten day Ignatian pilgrimage. From that experience, Ms. Schapker was inspired to create an exhibit of art that reflects what she saw as the remarkable influence of women on the spiritual journey of St. Ignatius Loyola.
