Department of Music, Campus Ministry present annual Advent Lessons and Carols at Bellarmine

The music includes hymns sung after Advent lessons are read | November 23, 2009

Xavier University’s Department of Music presents its annual Advent Lessons and Carols service in Bellarmine Chapel on the Xavier campus at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5. This event is free and open to the public.

The service borrows its format from similar lessons and carols celebrations with roots in Anglican Britain. Advent lessons are read, and each is followed by a short hymn sung by all present.

The music is being led by Xavier’s vocal ensembles under the direction of Tom Merrill, chair and associate professor of music, and liturgical choirs, under the direction of Scot Buzza, liturgical music coordinator. Lesson readers are coordinated by Xavier campus minister, Kelly Albany-Jenei.
