Rabbi Abie Ingber, director of Interfaith Community Engagement at Xavier University, traveled to Darfur recently and took cameras with him. On September 30th he will speak about 21 of the pictures taken on that trip. The Children of Hope exhibit will open at 6:30 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the Gallagher Student Center. Light refreshments will be provided and admission is free and open to the public. Rabbi Abie Ingber will speak at 7:30 pm in Kelley Auditorium in Alter Hall on the Xavier campus. The lecture is free and open, as well.
Every single picture in the exhibit was taken by a refugee in one of the three camps Ingber visited. The pictures were chosen by Ingber and Xavier director of photography Greg Rust from hundreds of images Ingber brought home. Almost no cropping or retouching was done, to keep them faithful to the photographer’s vision. These are perhaps the only digital photographs taken after hours in the Darfur refugee camps.
The Children of Hope exhibit was supported by a grant from the Fine Arts Fund. For more information, please call 513-745-3569.
