International Photo Contest Winners

At a reception April 17, Xavier University’s Offices of International Student Services, Mission and Identity, Marketing and Printing Services, Web Services and the Department of Art announced the winners of the University’s third International Photo Contest, in which entrants captured different places around the world on film and entered them into the contest.  Prizes were donated by Canon.
 
The contest opened for submissions in December and online voting started in late February. 214 images were submitted by 47 students and represented 40 different countries. 27 finalists were selected by the judges to be showcased in the Faces of the World Lounge of the Gallagher Student Center. Online voting started in late February and 864 voters selected their five favorites. Judges were: Gene Carmichael, S.J., interim Vice President of Mission and Identity, Jonathan Gibson, Assistant Professor, Department of Art, and Greg Rust, Xavier official photographer and official photographer of the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals.
 
FIRST PLACE WINNER
The first place winner in the student category was Cincinnatian Diana Suit (45208), whose photo, “Bubble Boy” (shown) was taken during her trip to Mamelodi, South Africa. Diana is a graduate student in the Master of Education program. She receives a camera donated by Canon. 
 
SECOND PLACE
2nd place: Spaniard Adela Orovay (45209) took 2nd for “One Thousand and One Nights” taken in Assilah, Morocco. Adela is a graduate student in occupational therapy.  
 
THIRD PLACE
Tai Piazza from St. Louis (63125), for a picture from Calcutta, India. “Anyone Present” won third place. Tai is a junior international business major.
 
FOURTH PLACE
"The Setting Sun Reveals the True Beauty of Parisian Dreams" set in Paris, France. Taken by Kelley Boldt of Winchester, KY (40391), a senior majoring in political science.
 
FIFTH PLACE
 “Red" taken in Stockholm Sweden by Jeremy Kohley, a first-year occupational therapy major from Lombard, IL (60148).
