Judy Brown, Student Employment Coordinator in Xavier’s Career Services Center, one of the recipients of the UPS Professional Development Scholarship, was selected to attend the National Student Employment Association's 34th Annual Conference held the week of November 10 in Philadelphia. Approximately 200 college and university student employment personnel from all over the country attended.
Dr. Bill O'Connell in the College of Social Sciences, Health, and Education’s Department of School and Community Counseling hosted the 25th Anniversary of the Ohio Counseling Association (OCA) Conference in Columbus, Ohio November 5-7, 2008. As president of OCA, O'Connell developed the conference which attracted over 1200 counselors with 140 educational offerings. Dr. Lon Kriner was recipient of the George Hill Award, presented each year by the Ohio School Counseling Association, for his outstanding contribution to the field of School Counseling. Dr. Brent Richardson presented a 6 hour workshop on helping youth who self injure. Dr. Robert Wubbolding, professor emeritus, presented a 6 hour session on Reality Therapy. Dr. Shantel Thomas, adjunct faculty member presented on counseling young minority women. Tony Fryer, adjunct faculty member, presented on couples counseling strategies. Graduate students LaTanya Cobb and Laura Domet co-presented with Dr. Sherlon Brown of Bowling Green University about their service learning project in Jamaica in the summer of 2008. Faculty members Dr. Rhonda Norman, past president of the Ohio Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development, and Dr. Margery Shupe, faculty liaison for the Chi Sigma Honors Society Chapter, supported Dr. O'Connell in organizing the conference.
