Xavier University’s Conaton Board Room in Schmidt Hall is being transformed into a Renaissance feasting hall complete with court nobles, musicians, heralding trumpets, elegant food and vocal music on Friday, Dec. 12. The Department of Music is presenting its sixth annual Madrigal Dinner to raise money in support of the department’s year-round productions.

The Madrigal Dinner begins with a cocktail hour followed by a traditional Elizabethan feast. Guests are seated at festively adorned tables where they enjoy a Christmas meal that includes Wassail (hot apple cider), the boar’s head (prime rib) and Yorkshire pudding.

Xavier’s Edgecliff Vocal Ensemble performs during the event under the direction of Master of Ceremonies Tom Merrill, assistant professor of music, who dresses in Renaissance finery. The ensemble provides musical entertainment throughout the evening. After the dinner, they plan to sing a brief concert of Christmas favorites.

The cost of the dinner is $80 per person and includes an open bar. Reservations are limited and can be made by calling 513-745-3801. The deadline for reservations is Dec. 1.
