After a long and thorough search, Xavier Dining is pleased to announce that Walter “Walt” Silka has been named new Director of Dining Services. Walt will be responsible for all facets of dining on the Xavier University campus, which include Hoff Marketplace, Ryan’s and Ryan’s Xpress, Catering, Concessions and the new dining venues scheduled to open in the upcoming years.  Walt comes to Xavier with 25 years of food service experience, mostly in the higher education market.

Walt’s experience includes performing management functions for dining services at schools of higher education including Wright State University in Dayton, OH, Cincinnati State Community College in Cincinnati, OH, and Bethany College in Bethany, WV. Most recently, Walt has spent the past three years as General Manager for Dining at Procter & Gamble corporate headquarters in downtown Cincinnati.

“I am very excited to join the Xavier Dining team! There is tremendous potential for Xavier Dining to be one of the best dining programs in the tri-state area, if not the country,” says Walt Silka. “I think the students, faculty, staff and alumni will be pleased with the menus, programs and promotions that will be implemented at Xavier. I cannot wait to get started!”

When Walt is not on campus serving our customers, you will find him coaching baseball to 12 year olds or spending time with his children. Walt has an 11 year old son and a 22 year old daughter who will be graduating from Ohio State in March with a degree in Engineering. Walt’s son enjoys playing the sax and following baseball. Walt is a huge sports fan and is an avid follower of baseball, football, basketball and NASCAR. Gardening is also a passion of Walt as you will find him in his perennial garden quite a bit.
