Preparation work to close sidewalks, streets, parking spaces and entrances to campus began along Ledgewood Avenue on Tuesday, July 22, for the construction of the Hoff Academic Quad, which includes the new Williams College of Business building. The project is the first of several improvements to campus as part of the To See Great Wonders Campaign for Xavier.
Construction fencing is installed along the east side of Ledgewood between Dana Avenue and almost to Herald Avenue in preparation for the demolition of houses. The sidewalk on that side of Ledgewood is closed temporarily. The sidewalk will reopen when crews finish removing the houses. There is also no parking on either side of Ledgewood, but the street will remain open to traffic during the construction project.
The north sidewalk on Dana, as well as the north traffic lane just east of Ledgewood, will also be closed temporarily while crews remove the Cincinnati Bell Building. The sidewalk and traffic lane will reopen when the demolition and removal is complete.
The street known as the Dana Connector, which runs from Dana north to Herald/Cleaney along the side of the old Cincinnati Bell building, is closed to through traffic. Construction vehicles, however, will be using this road. Construction trailers for Messer Construction are located behind the Cincinnati Bell building.
Construction is also set to begin on the new central utility plant which will be located on the southwest corner of Dana and Ledgewood. The parking lot currently located on that spot will be closed, but new parking will open nearby. Physical Plant vehicles will still be allowed to enter the area using a new entrance to the lot just south of the current entrance.
Parking will be available further south on Ledgewood, where the name changes to Woodburn Avenue, just past the railroad tracks on the west side of the road for plant and construction parking. The G Lot on the east side of the road is available for general parking.
