Xavier Names Director of Office of Multicultural Affairs
July 2, 2008
Robert Clay has been named the new Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Xavier University, effective July 21. Clay replaces Paul James, who left Xavier in March to become Director for Campus Diversity Affairs at Baldwin-Wallace College.
Before coming to Xavier, Clay served since 2003 as Assistant Director in the Office of Intercultural Programs at Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, PA. He also has held positions with Western Illinois University, Olivet College in Michigan, and the University of Houston, and taught in the Chicago Public Schools.
“I look forward to the opportunity to help Xavier develop its atmosphere to be even more welcoming and inclusive for all faculty, staff and students,” Clay said.
Clay earned a bachelor of arts degree in business from Olivet College in Olivet, MI and a master of science degree in College Student Personnel from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals (NASAP), American College Personnel Association (ACPA), and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).
“Robert will be a wonderful addition to Xavier University,” said Kathleen Simons, PhD, Associate Provost of Student Life and Leadership at Xavier. “His commitment to student success and enhancing intercultural communication is valued. He has tremendous energy and excitement about serving all students while providing leadership and mentoring to our students of color.”
