With 25 years of experience in strategic financial planning and management, Maribeth (Beth) Amyot has been selected for the position of Vice President for Financial Administration at Xavier University, effective Thursday, May 1.  She replaces J. Richard Hirté, who retired last December after working at Xavier since 1983, to concentrate on teaching courses at the Williams College of Business.

Amyot is currently Vice President for Finance and Administration at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury. Amyot has 25 years of higher education experience at three universities and 19 years in senior leadership positions.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of the outstanding teaching and learning community at Xavier. The university’s rich history and the achievements of its students and faculty are undeniable, creating an outstanding environment to live and work. I look forward to joining Xavier and contributing to the university’s continued success and progress in fulfilling its mission and advancing its strategic goals,” said Amyot.

Amyot’s experience encompasses a wide range of administrative areas including financial planning and management, investment administration, facilities planning and management, information technology, human resources, institutional advancement, strategic planning, organizational development, and board relations.

“We’re so pleased to have Beth join us in this very important role,” said Michael J. Graham, S.J., president of Xavier University.  “As Xavier stands on the brink of a very exciting campus rebirth, Beth’s experience, insight into problem solving, spirit of collaboration and enthusiasm will be instrumental to successfully implementing our goals.”

At Western Connecticut, Amyot provided leadership to several highly successful university-wide initiatives including the unanimously adopted strategic plan, the strategic enrollment management plan, and the ten-year facilities master plan.  Under her management, the university's financial health improved significantly, moving from a structural deficit to a position where systematic investments are being made in the university's strategic initiatives. Her demonstrated commitment to transparency increased financial understanding among all university constituents.  Over the past three years, her involvement in facilities planning, construction and related financing terms encompassed several major building and renovation projects, including a student center, residence hall, parking garage, and opening of an award-winning science building as well as many minor capital projects and attention to deferred maintenance and energy conservation.

Prior to Western Connecticut State, Amyot worked at the University of Connecticut and West Virginia University.

A native of Cohoes, NY, Amyot spent her childhood in Westernport, MD and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering and an MBA from West Virginia University in Morgantown.
